EXTRA CONCERT ADDED! – MARINA REBEKA Solo concert. Friends to Andrejs Žagars


After a sold-out concert at the Vidzeme Concert Hall “CĒSIS”, the Andrejs Žagars Cultural Development Foundation is delighted to announce an extra concert by the world renowned Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka on October 21st at 7pm in The Main Hall of the Latvian National Opera. It will be the singer’s first time back on the Latvian National Opera stage in six years.

Marina Rebeka is one of the leading opera stars of our time. Since her performance at the Salzburg festival in 2009, led by conductor Riccardo Muti, Marina has numerously performed at the world’s most prestigious opera houses and concert halls, such as Teatro alla Scala of Milan, Opéra Bastille in Paris, The Metropolitan Opera in New York City, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden in London, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Vienna State Opera and the Zürich Opera House.
The singer collaborates with leading conductors, such as Riccardo Muti, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano, Fabio Luisi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Daniele Gatti and others. Being an active and widely renowned singer, Marina Rebeka has performed solo concerts in many of the world’s prestigious concert halls.
The diva opened the 2024/2025 season with a debut in the role of Lida in Verdi’s “The Battle of Legnano” at the Parma opera house and a return to the San Carlo theatre in Naples, taking on the role of Maria in Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra”. In succession, the title role in two productions of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” at the Vienna State Opera and the Zürich Opera House respectively. Marina Rebeka will make her debut in the role of Elisabeth in a production of Verdi’s “Don Carlos” at the Opéra Bastille in Paris.
Conductor Michele Gamba, Italy
Michele Gamba is currently regarded as one of the most multifaceted musical interpreters. The conductor made his debut at the Linbury Theatre at Covent Garden, followed by a staging of Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” at the Berlin State Opera which won acclaim from both audiences and critics alike. The concerts at the Vidzeme Concert Hall “CĒSIS” and the Latvian National Opera will be the conductor’s debut in gracing the stage in front of a Latvian audience.
Michele Gamba has been assistant to Maestros Antonio Pappano and Daniel Barenboim, and has been invited to collaborate with numerous remarkable European opera houses and orchestras. After his debut at Teatro alla Scala in Milan in 2016, he has continued to work closely with the opera house and its orchestra, resulting in him having conducted seven productions there.
Gamba works in famous opera houses around the world, such as Semperoper Dresden, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, the Hamburg State Opera, Stuttgart Opera, the Strasbourg Opera House, the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and others.
In 2023, Michele Gamba made his debut in The Metropolitan Opera in New York City and the Washington National Opera, gaining significant praise from critics all around the world.
