Gala Concert of Europe’s Leading Ballet Soloists at the Opera

Latvijas Nacionālā opera

The finest soloists of the leading European ballet companies and the future stars of Latvian ballet will perform together in a ballet gala concert. The concert will take place on 4 December this year on the stage of the Latvian National Opera.

The concert features a diverse programme that blends classical ballet and contemporary dance. It will feature Laura Morera, female principal dancer of the Royal Ballet, London, and Federico Bonelli, male principal dancer; Igone de Jongh, female principal dancer of the Dutch National Ballet; Daniel Camargo, male principal dancer of Stuttgart Ballet; Yuka Ebihara, soloist of the Polish National Ballet; and Dawid Trzensimiech, leading soloist of the Romanian National Ballet.

“Some of the soloists have received recognition from the Queen of England, others have been ranked among the world’s top 100 dancers, but we are particularly looking forward to the return of Latvian-born talents Evelīna Godunova and Timofej Andrijashenko to the Latvian stage,” says concert organiser Andrejs Žagars.

Evelīna Godunova is currently a soloist with Universal Ballet of South Korea, and Timofej Andrijashenko is a soloist with La Scala Ballet in Milan. This excellent selection of soloists will be joined by our young talents Jūlija Brauere and Kārlis Cīrulis, who have made a name for themselves on the Latvian National Opera stage and at international ballet competitions. The concert will include excerpts from Adolphe Adam’s ballet Giselle, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s ballets The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake. Tarik O’Regan’s Mata Hari, as well as contemporary productions by talented choreographers Kenneth MacMilla, Ted Brandsen, Robert Bondar and Milana Komarova.

The concert is organised by The Andrejs Žagars Culture Support and Development Foundation which was established to promote and develop high quality cultural projects with a particular focus on music and the arts. The foundation aims to attract funding from the State, philanthropists and European funds.
